Dear Friends:
An example of a convoluted issue, and how it is possible to nearly
perpetually maintain a situation in a mire of words and rhetoric so
nothing/or little gets accomplished. Here is my statement on the
high stakes test referred to as the WASL.
______________________________
To Whom it May Concern:
While recommending that we continue to implement fair and feasible
assessment testing, making sure accountability exists for the sake
of our children, I recommend that we rethink our position on the
high stakes nature of the WASL, terminating it as a graduation
requirement, and putting more trust and responsibility back into the
hands of our teachers, allowing them a large range of
assessment tools to determine graduation success.
Stigmatizing graduation configurations that would live with the
student for the rest of their lives is self-defeating, unkind, and
unnecessary.
Thank you for your caring work in regard to our children, and for
understanding that as we cast our shadows today, we will all
eventually walk into them as we enter our tomorrows.
Sincerely,
JeanMarie Christenson
