Dear Friends and Voters,

When candidates run in local races they can often run for very little money. In fact, sometimes candidates are chided by their opponents for spending too much money.

The money issue is entirely different for larger State races. If the candidate does not have substantial amounts of money showing with the Public Disclosure Commission, other money sources will not invest in that candidacy.

This is one of the sad aspects of big political races, and why special interest groups become so important, persuasive, and powerful. The awful fact is powerful positions in Government can be bought. Now, that isn’t to say that they always are … and I do want to make that clear … but they can be.

The current political belief is, in order to unseat an incumbent in the position of State Representative it takes from $50,000 to $100,000. If you are asking yourself “Why?” … don’t feel alone. I asked the same question.

Here is what I learned. It takes that much money because money buys expertise, experience, savvy insight, time, talent, and know-how. It also buys advertising, air time, labor hours, and staff. Those are the things that allow the candidate to get out and CAMPAIGN. Without money, the candidate spends most of the time doing what is required of them in the office, and that leaves little time, energy, or focus for the race.

So now enter the heroes, also known as “volunteers.” Volunteers can balance the need for huge amounts of dollars, because volunteers themselves can offer expertise, experience, savvy insight, time, talent and know-how. They can also offer advertising, air time, materials, and can work as staff.

If you would like to join me in putting an end to special interest groups believing they can buy candidates with their bottom-line, then WE together have to stand up and say, “Enough is enough.” What that is going to take is contributions without strings attached, contributed freely, and lots of volunteers.

Most of all it will take you, the voter, putting your vote by my name, Jean Marie Christenson, on your ballot.

I am a home owner and former teacher, psychotherapist, and author. One day several months ago, I stood up and I said, “Enough is enough.”

Let’s get to Olympia the correct way, the honorable way, the “We, the people…” way.

Thank you for your support and for your vote.

Now we are headed into the home stretch. If you have ever thought about contributing to The Campaign to Elect Jean Marie Christenson, please do it now!

There is little time until the next ballot arrives in your mailbox.
